Microsoft slams on the brakes for Windows 12

Wants more AI in Windows 11

Software King of the World Microsoft is not going to release a new generation of Windows and wants to jack more AI under the bonnet of Windows 11 instead.

Eager to capitalise on the current AI buzz, Microsoft is betting heavily on tools like ChatGPT and its own AI assistant, clippy Copilot, which is conveniently accessible from the taskbar, becoming an integral part of PC life.

It is safe to do all this because Apple has dropped the ball on AI and even its Macbooks are looking low tech by comparison.

According to Windows Latest, Microsoft asserts that Copilot+ PCs are up to 50 per cent faster than an M3 MacBook. Early reviews of Copilot+ PCs, including the Surface Laptop 7, have shown impressive performance.

As Windows 10 approaches its end-of-support date on October 14, 2025, Microsoft is placing increased emphasis on future versions of Windows 11.

With the decision to delay Windows 12, Microsoft is concentrating on encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11. The company is also aiming to win over users with its Copilot+ PCs, presenting a vision of the capabilities these devices will offer and how they will transform PC interactions.

Windows Latest notes that Windows 11 was launched during the pandemic, a time when new PC purchases surged. Vole may wait for a similar opportunity to release Windows 12, although waiting for a pandemic to release a new operating system does strike us as a bit drastic – even if you believe that Bill Gates was involved in a conspiracy with the Chinese to release Covid.
