Chinese company Proview Electronics Co Ltd has locked horns with Apple in a legal battle over the name ‘iPad’, and the fight is on in both the States and China. However, California Superior Court now dismissed the lawsuit, confirming that Apple didn’t trick Proview Electronics into selling the name for pittance.
Proview filed the lawsuit in February and said it was basically deceived. The company claims Apple purchased the rights to the name through a special-purpose vehicle.
Apple maintains that the case should be settled in Hong Kong, something with which the judge obviously agreed. As for the name, Proview maintains Apple conducted business with one unit of Proview, which means that Apple has no right using the name ‘iPad’ in China.
Apple said that Proview is hustling it to get more money for an already bought trademark.
