Starting at $1,299, the new iMac with M4 chip is said to be up to 1.7x faster for daily productivity, and up to 2.1x faster for demanding workflows like photo editing and gaming, compared to the iMac with M1, and it did get 16GB of unified memory (configurable to 32GB). Interestingly, the new iMac with M4 chip will actually be slower than the new iPad Pro models, and Apple is keeping 256GB SSD storage as the base option.
As said Apple kept the same old design, but it was keen to note that the new iMac M4 comes with an "array of gorgeous new colors", including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and blue, alongside the standard silver. Apple also bragged about the environment, saying it is built with 100 percent recycled aluminum in the stand, and 100 percent recycled gold plating, tin soldering, and copper in multiple printed circuit boards, as well as mercury-free and more.
The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display also has a new nano-texture glass option, and Apple has equipped it with a new 12MP Center Stage camera with support for Desk View. Connectivity-wise, it has up to four USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, as well as WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
With M4, Apple gave the iMac access to Apple Intelligence, which is available in U.S. English with macOS Sequoia 15.1. Further support for more languages will come in December for localized English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K., while additional support is expected throughout the next year.
"iMac is beloved by millions of users, from families at home to entrepreneurs hard at work. With the incredible features of Apple Intelligence and the powerful performance of Apple silicon, the new iMac changes the game once again," said John Ternus, Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. "With M4 and Apple Intelligence, gorgeous new colors that pop in any space, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, and a new nano-texture glass display option, it's a whole new era for iMac."
