4mm key travel, N-Key rollover, key-cap design
Announced a few weeks ago, the Adesso AKB-636UB is a mechanical typewriter keyboard featuring silver-colored “smooth action” mechanical keys with a four millimeter key travel distance and a retro-style aesthetic appeal. Traditional typewriters lasted about 100 pages each time a new ribbon is installed before the ink faded, this keyboard is capable of handling up to 50 million keystrokes.
With a typewriter key-cap design and an actuation force rating of 45 to 50 grams, the keyboard’s tactile feedback allows people to have a much quicker, more responsive typing experience, it claims. The company hopes that the keyboard will give people a modern conversation piece with a look from yesteryear, while also having the durability and precision of today's technology.
The keyboard also features N-Key rollover that lets up to six keys to be pressed at the same time. This means that each key is scanned independently by the keyboard hardware so that each keypress is correctly detected regardless of how many other keys are pressed or held down at the same time.
Spill resistant, adjustable feet
The Adesso Mechanial Typewriter Keyboard is also spill resistant, allowing minor drops or splashes to escape through the bottom of the chassis without causing damage. On the backside are adjustable keyboard feet to allow for more customized typing, the company claims.
The AKB-636UB is now available from retailers including Amazon, Newegg, B&H and others for $99.
