As expected, the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000 WX-series CPUs are taking advantage of the new Zen 3 architecture with higher IPC, higher clocks, and other improvements, bringing up to 64-cores/128-threads configurations, 8-channel DDR4 memory support, 128-lane PCIe 4.0 root complex, and more. The new chips are supported on the same WRX80 platform as the previous Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3000 WX-series chips.

Bear in mind that the new Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000 WX-series chips use Zen 3's 8-core CCX design, which brings a slightly different L3 cache organization, so we are looking at a 32MB cluster, or 256MB of L3 cache for the flagship Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX.

AMD is launching a total of five different SKUs, all at 280W TDP, ranging from the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5945WX, a 12-core/24-thread SKUs ticking at 4.1/4.5GHz clock, up to the flagship Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX, a 64-core/128-thread chip working at 2.7GHz/4.5GHz clocks.

AMD is pretty much updating its old Ryzen Threadripper 3000 WX-series chips, offering much higher performance at the same power rating.

As a part of AMD's Threadripper Pro lineup, the new 5000 WX-series CPUs are coming with AMD's hardware-level Shadow Stack security, with AMD Pro Security, AMD Pro Manageability, and AMD Pro Business-ready features. It enables Microsoft hardware-enforced stack protection and brings AMD Secure Memory, a hardware-accelerated memory encryption.

As expected, AMD compared the performance with Intel's Xeon equivalents, promising up to 67 percent lower power per core with up to 39 percent faster rendering across the board, adding up to the promised 2x better performance-to-power ratio.

While AMD did not talk a lot about the availability, it appears that the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000 WX-series chips are currently limited to OEMs only, most specifically Lenovo, as AMD's key launch partner. It is not clear if the 5000 WX-series will follow the fate of the 3000 WX-series, which launched to retail around three months after the OEM launch, but for now, these will be available at Lenovo from March 21st.
