This was an interesting day as it's been a while when I've heard that Intel and AMD share the same opinion.
Back in late 2006 AMD said that It
doesn't want to go for DDR3 until late 2008, early 2009 and that has
been the plan ever since. Intel always rush into new memory standards
and makes its mainstream and it did the same with DDR 2 to DDR3
transition.
The memory becomes mainstream once it gets to
notebooks and Montevina will use DDR 3 and it is schdueld for June
2008 and since that point the memory prices should start going
significantly down as the demand from OEM will increase.
AMD socket AM3 the one that supports DDR3 is scheduled for second half 2008.
