We had a chance to see Intel Solid State Drive and the company plans to start making and selling these drives in 2008. The nice chatty fellow has confirmed that this is the way that company wants to go and that the two devices 2.5 and 3.5 inch are actually the real prototypes and not just mock-ups.
The smaller drive is obviously for notebooks while the bigger one, with its odd capacity of 40GB, is for desktops and servers. Intel wants to go to servers first as the access time of these drives is much faster.
Intel has the flash fabs so all it
needs to do is to start production and this will happen very soon.
