Today, Intel released a new low-end segment dual-core processor in
its Pentium lineup specifically for the Chinese market. In light of the
incredible potential we’ve seen from this particular budget chip, we believe it
is almost guaranteed to turn some heads for its raw performance prowess.
The Intel Pentium E6500K 2.93GHz is a 45nm dual-core processor
that features a 1066MHz Front Side Bus, 2MB of L2 cache, a 65W TDP and support
for Virtualization Technology. Most importantly, however, it features an
unlocked multiplier for additional overclocking accessibility. Back in August,
an enthusiast by the name of DFORDOG from the Expreview Forums was given the
opportunity to run this CPU under liquid nitrogen to find its maximum stable clocks
and potential. It came as a remarkable surprise that this little chip was able
to run at a
whopping 6004MHz using an FSB frequency of 353MHz and a 17x multiplier at
1.8v.
At around the same time, Expreview was able to obtain a
review sample for some private benchmarking in which it concluded that the
outstanding overclocking ability of this chip has given it a large advantage
over AMD’s Phenom X3 8650 and Phenom X3 8750.
As of today, Intel has decided to sell the E6500K 2.93GHz in Japan
for ¥1100 ($130 USD). It is interesting
to point out that this chip was originally geared for the Chinese market, where
it was available in limited quantities earlier this year. However, Intel has
now decided to sell it in Japan, even under the same product packaging with
Chinese writing on the box.
