The mobile version of Core 2 Extreme is scheduled to die before the end of this quarter. We are talking about X9000 generation CPUs, as Intel probably realised that not too many people are buying them.
Intel
also wants to push the message that quad-core is the right way to go if you
want the top performing notebook especially now when Calpella platform and
Clarkdale quad-core Nehalem for notebooks are so close to launch.
Core 2 Extreme quad-core QX9300 4x 2.53GHz will remain on
the market at least until Q3 when it is scheduled to be replaced with Clarksfield. The
future of high performance notebooks is obviously quad-core, but dual-core will
play a major role in majority of notebooks.
Quad-cores still have too high Thermal design power of 45W average,
which is way too much for any notebook.
