As bold a claim as it may seem, Intel’s predictions seem quite plausible as the company expects to see Atom processors in more than 50% of entry level desktop sales by the end of 2009. Those who’ve followed Atom closely know that the processor is ideal for office computers, and is a nice means to limit those pesky workplace gamers.
Intel’s target shipments of single-core Atom 230 and dual-core Atom 330 CPUs in nettop and entry-level desktop shipments are expected to rise from Q1’s 4% and 6% respectively, to 10% and 52% by Q4 ’09.
The aforementioned processors are expected to stick around by Q1 2010, when they will be phased out in favor of the next-gen dual-core Pineview-DC and single-core Pineview-SC. Pineview-DC is expected to launch in Q4 ’09 whereas the single-core Pineview-SC comes a bit later in Q1 2010.
