Nvidia’s upcoming mobile video and graphics processor APX 2500 HD attracted lot of attention when it was announced, and now some additional details emerged.
It is a processor aimed at hand-held devices and should consume only 50 mW, and that’s enough for 10 hours on a single charge. These processors will be first used for GPS devices only to be followed by mobile phones.
The chip will pack an ARM11 MP core running at maximum 750MHz, Geforce class GPU, high-def audio and video processor, memory, IO system and an image processor in a CPU that’s roughly the size of a dime.
Nvidia claims that APX 2500 can run HDMI 1.2 with additional dual display capabilities, that’ll enable you to connect an external high-def display.
It will support up to 720p resolution in H.264, MPEG-4 and VC-1, and, as strange as it might seem, features like programmable pixel shaders, vertex and lighting, as well as antialiasing.
So, it seems like Nvidia really put their two cents in. Or dimes, if you will.
