With Cortex-X4 Prime core and on-device AI

Qualcomm has announced its latest mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, giving it a single Cortex-X4 Prime core and adding on-device AI capabilities, pushing it much closer to the flagship Snapdragon 8 series SoCs.

Built on a 4nm manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features a single Cortex-X4 Prime core clocked at up to 2.8GHz, paired up with four Performance cores (most likely Cortex-A720) clocked at up to 2.6GHz, and three Efficiency cores (Cortex-A540) clocked at up to 1.9GHz. It supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x-4200 memory and UFS 4.0 storage. Qualcomm did not provide specific details regarding the Adreno GPU used in the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, but promises up to 45 percent improvement compared to the previous Snapdragon 7 series SoC and new Game Post Processing Accelerator and Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, as well as support for Snapdragon Elite Gaming. The CPU part is up to 15 percent faster, and the SoC itself is around five percent more power efficient.

The rest of the specifications include Qualcomm's triple 18-bit Spectra ISP with support for up to 200MP photo capture and 108MP single camera or triple 36MP one, Qualcomm's own Hexagon NPU with scalar, vector, and tensor accelerators, Snapdragon X64 5G Modem-RF and FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System with WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite, Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.0 technology, and more.

Qualcomm was keen to note that the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is the first 7-series SoC to have on-device generative AI capabilities, offering support for bung of LLMs and LVMs, including Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM.
