In a social media post, Meizu revealed that the FlymeOS crew will now be working on spanking new AI terminal devices. These gadgets are set to use globally available LLMs (that's large language models for those not in the know), such as the illustrious Open AI.

Meizu isn't just bailing on smartphones; they're diving headfirst into the world of smart cars, too. Flyme Auto – the latest and greatest infotainment system for Geely's swanky vehicles, including Polestar and Lotus. It's all singing and dancing, linking up like old pals with FlymeOS 10 devices, such as the Meizu 20 and Meizu 21 flagships.

Xingji Meizu Group big cheese Shen Ziyu said smartphone users were slower to upgrade than asthmatic tortoises with a heavy load of shopping and were only buying new phones every 51 months. This made it difficult for Meizu to build a decent business model around them.

Meizu has promised a brand-spanking new mobile OS tailor-made for the AI era, set to hit the shelves in 2024. And it is throwing in an AI-enabled hardware product for good measure – coming soon to a store near you (if you're in China).
