Given the fact that the Priv is not going to be a bog standard blackberry and the company has not exactly been flush with success lately it was inevitable that the company would try and push the phone around the u bend of high margins.
BlackBerry's chief executive John Chen has even previously said that the device will have a top-end price tag but how much has been anyone's guess.
Now a Chinese Weibo leaker dubbed "Leaksfly claims that the Priv will cost $630.
The BlackBerry Priv (which stands for privacy not short for privy) is expected to be loaded with security stuff to stop people monitoring calls. It will be out next year and will run Android rather than BlackBerry OS in a move to attract more users.
However Blackberry is in the last chance saloon with smartphones. If this does not lift the seat of the company's bottom line then Blackberry's days in the mobile arena will be over.
Cue comments from indignant Blackberry fanboys who claim that the word "priv" does not really suggest the world "privy" and is not really English slang for toilet.
