LG’s Optimus 2X, or P990, is scheduled to go on sale tomorrow, April Fool’s Day. The Android super-phone has been in the works for quite a while and Nvidia is hoping that the concept will take off.
Powered by a beefy Tegra 2 processor at 1GHz, the P990 is a feature packed phone with an 800x480 4-inch screen, 8MP camera with 1080p support, Bluetooth, GPS, WLAN, mirco-USB and HDMI. It will set you back about €450 in European markets, which seems like a realistic price tag all things considered.
Nvidia has a lot riding on Tegra phones, but few vendors have chosen the processor for their upcoming smartphones and Tegra 2 seems to be doing much better in the tablet department. The P990 is already on sale in a handful of shops and the reviews have been out for weeks. It’s a pretty nice piece of kit, but most people in the market for a high-end smartphone will probably choose something from HTC, Apple or some other major player.
