Since its
original unveiling at CTIA in March, the HTC EVO 4G has been described by many
analysts and consumers as the “iPhone for Sprint, without a doubt.” While the
carrier’s exclusive new lucrative
smartphone has caught many eyes with its incredible feature set and the
promise of a 7Mbps 4G WiMAX network in some areas, reports are coming in from
EVO 4G owners that the hardware build quality of the device may actually be a
bit disappointing.
The HTC Forums community has actively engaged in discussion
over a
new post detailing an inherent design flaw in the HTC EVO 4G’s display that
causes it to become unglued from the aluminum frame. According to the posters,
the glue failure seems to be happening in a significant amount of shipped
devices.
The separation is causing excessive LED light leakage that
seeps out of the bottom of the frame, and apparently gets worse as users engage
the capacitive multitouch display more frequently. What has many worried,
however, is the fact that Sprint and RadioShack stores across the country are
running on extremely limited supplies of the smartphone. In other words,
getting a replacement device be a tough call for many users experiencing the
issue.
HTC has not made any official announcement on the issue, but
we would hope to see a statement from them within the next week.
