SlingPlayer for BlackBerry to enter beta
Support for Bold, 8900, 8320, and 8220
We have been hearing rumors about a BlackBerry version of the SlingPlayer for a long time now, but nothing firm until now. Sources are telling us that the SlingPlayer for BlackBerry will enter public beta on December 30th.
The SlingPlayer for BlackBerry will only work on the BlackBerry Bold, Curve 8900, Curve 8320, Pearl 8120, BlackBerry 8820, and the Pearl Flip 8220. Of course, much of the reason for the limited compatibility is the fact that you really need Wi-Fi or 3G to use it.
In addition, one requirement that might keep some from using it is that it will require version 4.5 or 4.6 of the BlackBerry OS in order to use it. While most carriers have upgrades available, this might not be true in every case.
In addition, you will need a compatible Sling device to use it, but the potential of the SlingPlayer could be very good for the BlackBerry platform as a whole. It also extends the Sling platform, which could also pay dividends as well for those using it.
