A group of
hackers who adapted the iPhone so it can run on other networks is advising
users not to run the software update on the phone just yet.
Apple has
pledged to use the update to brick any hacked phone. However the iPhone Dev
Team wants you to wait before installing Apple's forthcoming software
update. The group says it will have a fix out next week that will allow
you to restore that iPhone to its factory settings.
The move will
cover users tracks and let you bring your iPhone in for warranty service.
But the statement also seemed to indicate that the hackers would immediately
set upon Apple's iPhone update and find a way to make the unlocking software
work again.
In the US there are some suggestions that Apple's bricking of the
phone might be illegal.
