Previously, DLSS Frame Generation relied on specific hardware within Nvidia's RTX 40 series, but with the new model, it could now run on older GPUs. This could mainly happen as it no longer requires the RTX 40 series' hardware optical flow accelerator. Of course, this does not mean that Nvidia could extend it to the RTX 30 series, but rather that it could work with certain optimizations. Of course, this does not include Nvidia's new DLSS Multi Frame Generation, which uses Blackwell hardware, so, the Multi Frame Generation feature will remain incompatible with older RTX cards.
In an interview with Digital Foundry, Nvidia’s Bryan Catanzaro did not rule out the possibility of bringing DLSS Frame Generation to RTX 30 series GPUs, but he also talked about certain problems, including the reduced AI computing power of the RTX 30 series compared to the RTX 40 series, which would require additional optimization efforts.
"I think this is primarily a question of optimization, and also engineering, and then the ultimate user experience. We’re launching this Frame Generation, the best multi-frame generation technology, with the RTX 50 series, and we’ll see what we’re able to squeeze out of older hardware in the future", said Catanzaro during an interview with Digital Foundry.
Hopefully, Nvidia will make it happen, but we are sure it won't be a priority.
