The lack of 3D Blu-ray playback support has been whispered about for quite some time, but a Microsoft rep apparently does tell CNET that the company has not ruled out adding the feature in the future. As for 3D support on the PlayStation 4, it remains an unknown. We do know that the PS3 has 3D Blu-ray playback support, but Sony has still yet to confirm if they have 3D Blu-ray playback support on the PS4.
While it would be nice to see Microsoft offer 3D Blu-ray playback support, the reality is that there is very little interesting in 3D Blu-ray and while that small minority that are into 3D Blu-ray might be unhappy to hear that the Xbox One is lacking support for 3D Blu-ray playback, we don’t think in the end it is going to effect the buying decision of the majority that will buy an Xbox One. Microsoft was right to allocate their resources on things other than getting 3D Blu-ray playback support working. It is honestly one feature that I don’t think many buyers are going to miss that much.
