Sources whisper to us that Microsoft will announce the upcoming release of a new wireless Xbox 360 controller to be sold as a limited edition offering in conjunction with the release of Halo: Reach.

From what we hear, the controller will retail for $60 and be available for a limited time only. The controller itself does not offer anything new beyond the silver Halo: Reach-themed paint job that makes it look very much like Spartan armor.

Microsoft has released Halo-themed controllers before, and they have been pretty successful. Most recently, Microsoft offered a wireless Halo 3: ODST-themed controller as part of the Halo 3: ODST Collector’s Pack.  From what we hear, this time around Microsoft is going to offer just the controller as a separate limited edition offering that will be released the same day that Halo: Reach is released.
