According to Digitimes and its less than reliable industry sources, the Nexus 7 won’t appear in China and the rollout in other markets will be slow. For example, Taiwan will get it in September, but if the old Nexus 7 is anything to go by, it will take months before the new one appears in smaller markets, or emerging markets.
Total shipments of the first generation Nexus 7 amounted to just six million units and it was launched a year ago. Both tablets got very good reviews and they were praised for their low price and best in class performance. The first Nexus 7 raised the bar in the 7-inch space and even today many brand 7-inchers don’t come close. The same goes for the new Nexus 7, with a high resolution screen and a more powerful processor.
Still, the 3.5 million figure sounds rather pessimistic. The market is shifting to cheaper, smaller Android tablets and the Nexus 7 is still the best small Android tablet out there. It might do better, the first generation paved the way and it's up to Google to capitalize on the good press.
