Apple has consistently failed to copy its rivals when it comes to foldables, even as the Tame Apple Press has demanded it. However moving to OLED displays on tablets and MacBooks is a no brainer that even Apple can manage.
Apple has been stuck on the older LCD screens for its tablets and macbooks even while OLED, or organic light-emitting diode, displays are already used in most top-quality premium smartphones and iPhones.
According to Nikkei Asia, an OLED MacBook model is also under development for production in the second half of 2025 at the earliest, the people said. The growing penetration of OLED is a significant win for Samsung Display and LG Display of South Korea, and China's BOE Technology Holding, which have all bet heavily on this expensive display technology.
Apple is not the first to adopt OLED displays for tablets. Huawei, for instance, has been a significant driver of this trend, which has helped strengthen the Chinese display supply chain.
