Sandisk releases fast SSD
Multi-level cell
Flash memory maker SanDisk rolled out a family of what it claims are the world's fastest multi-level cell, solid-state hard drives. The new G3 series SSDs are designed as drop-in replacements for hard disk drives in notebook computers.
SanDisk say they will come in 60-, 120- and 240-gigabyte sizes, with the drives priced at $149 (€109/£98), $249 (€182/£163) and $499 (€328/£294), respectively. In the press release the outfit claims that its G3 SSDs are more than five times faster than the fastest HDDs currently on the market, and more than twice as fast as SSDs shipping in 2008.
They will also offer twice as fast boot-times, and they can survive being dropped a few times.
