Chip sales soar in Europe

Sales of semiconductors in February last exceeded forecasts, according to the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA).

Sales in Europe hit $3.429 billion – a 21.7 percent increase compared to February 2017.

ESIA said that for two months in a row, Europe showed growth month-to-month – the only region worldwide showing growth.

Worldwide, according to WSTS figures, sales amounted to $36.754 billion in February, down 2.2 percent from January 2017 but up 21 percent compared to the same period last year.

Types of chips in 2018 showing  growth were optoelectronic semiconductors, logic chips and discretes. But application specific chips grew 2.7 percent compared to January.
