Notebook manufacturers expect to use LED backlit screens in 30-40 percent of notebooks next year, whereas LED penetration was at under 10 percent this year.
Most netbooks currently use LED srcreens, but in regular notebooks LED backlit screens are still far from standard. Penetration is expected to jump to 15 percent in Q4, and keep growing rapidly throughout 2009.
In addition to lower power consumption, LED screens are also more environmentally friendly to produce and dispose of than CCFL backlit screens.
