Iranian law enforcement is apparently hoping it could cooperate with Facebook in fighting cyber crime and pornography.

The semi-official announcement sounds like a policy shift, as Tehran did not take too kindly to Facebook after opposition activists used the social networks to organize protests against president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after he sort of stole the presidential election a couple of years ago.

Head of Iran’s cyber police General Kamal Hadianfar told ISNA that the cunning plan is to remove Facebook pages created by Iranian citizens that promote pornography and prostitution.

General Hadianfar claims the plan would involve cooperation from Facebook, although it is unclear whether the social network giant will be willing to cooperate. After all, Facebook was banned in Iran after the 2009 elections.
 
Iran’s past efforts to curb prostitution included granting horny old men and street prostitutes one-day temporary marriage licenses, so unconventional solutions are nothing new.
