Testing and Overclocking
Asus clocked the card at a reference 540MHz/1400MHz. As we didn't have any truly comparable results from similar cards, we tried overclocking this one, and compared the OC results with the reference ones.
We'll soon refresh our score sheets with 8600GT and 8500GT card results. We already mentioned that the GT cards utilize the same GPU as the GTS versions, and share the same characteristics. The chips on the Asus 8600GT seem to be from a good batch of wafers, so we were able to push the GPU speed above the GTS versions 675MHz. The card is stable at 690MHz, although we hit as much as 710MHz, but the stability was an issue.
The 1.4ns memory used comes from Samsung, and we were able to push it to 880MHz. We got the best results when we set the GPU/memory at 690/1760MHz. You can find some lower speeds in our charts, we chose to leave them there for your viewing pleasure. You can check out the best overclocking results and gains in 3Dmark06 and Lost Planet.
