Kingston launches new NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

by on04 September 2024

Up to 4TB and 6,000MB/s

Kingston has announced it has started shipping its new NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD, which will be available in capacities of up to 4TB and reaching sequential read and write performance of up to 6,000MB/s and 5,000MB/s.

While Kingston did not reveal any specific details regarding the controller and NAND, a quick check shows that it should be powered by the new Silicon Motion SM2268XT2 controller and paired up with Kioxia's BiCS6 162-layer QLC NAND. This is a decent combination, especially considering that Kingston is using the new Silicon Motion controller. The Kingston NV3 uses a DRAM-less design, which is not a surprise considering the targeted market.

As said, the Kingston NV3 comes in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB (launching in Q4) capacities, with sequential read and write performance of up to 6,000/5,000 MB/s (4TB and 2TB versions). The 500GB and 1TB versions will peak at 5,000/3,000MB/s and 6,000/4,000MB/s, respectively. It uses standard M.2 2280 form factor with PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe interface.

The Kingston NV3 is backed by a 3-year warranty. Unfortunately, Kingston did not reveal any details regarding the price, but the 2TB version is currently selling for $129.99 at Amazon.com, which is not a bad deal.
