Intel reveals Lunar Lake Core Ultra 200V-series processor benchmarks

Claims historic power efficiency

Troubled chipmaker Intel has unveiled performance benchmarks for its Lunar Lake Core Ultra 200V-series processors at IFA 2024 in Berlin, highlighting 'historic x86 power efficiency' and the world's fastest mobile CPU cores.

These processors boast 30 per cent faster gaming performance compared to competitors. Chipzilla claims a 50 per cent reduction in package power consumption over previous models, resulting in twice the performance per watt and up to 20.1 hours of battery life.

This surpasses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite by nearly two hours and AMD’s chips by almost four hours.

Chipzilla slammed Qualcomm’s compatibility issues, noting that 23 games and numerous applications failed to run on the X Elite chips.

If Intel's claims are correct, its processors will strongly oppose AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series 'Strix Point' chips and Qualcomm’s X Elite.

The new Core Ultra 200V-series chips are available for pre-order in OEM systems, with shipping starting on September 24. Intel showcased various OEM laptops and provided benchmark demos to support its claims. The Lunar Lake processors fall into the Core Ultra 200 series, featuring a new ‘V’ suffix for differentiation.

The series includes nine SKUs, each with four single-threaded Lion Cove P-cores and four single-threaded Skymont E-cores, with clock speeds ranging from 4.5 GHz to 5.1 GHz. Memory capacities are either 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533, and L3 cache capacities are either 8MB or 12MB, depending on the model.

All chips include an 8MB Side Cache, similar to the system-level cache on Arm processors. The CPUs deliver up to 5 TOPS of AI performance, consistent across all models.
