The Topaz 2, based on Intel's NUC design, comes in three main SKUs, the NUC12TZi7, NUC12TZi5, and NUC12TZi3, based on Core i7-1260P, Core i5-1240P, and the Core i3-1215U CPUs. Starting at $599, all three can be further equipped with up to 64GB of DDR4-3200, up to 8TB of NVMe PCIe M.2 in the main, and up to 2TB of SATA M.2 storage in the secondary slot.
Of course, the Core i7 and Core i5 options feature Intel Iris Xe graphics, while the Core i3 version is limited to Intel UHD graphics.
The Topaz 2 has dual 2.5GbE ports, Intel WiFi 6, and on-board TPM 2.0.
There are several other optional upgrades including accessories, different NUC lids and chassis color options, Ubuntu as a free option or Windows OS, and more.
The Ruby 2 is a similar system, sharing the chassis with Topaz 2, but is based on AMD's platform. It also comes in three standard SKUs, the CBM2R7RB, CBM2R5RB, and the CBM2R3RB, based on AMD Ryzen R7-5700U, Ryzen R5-5600U, or the Ryzen R3-5300U CPU.
It also shares all the other upgrades, including up to 64GB of DDR4 memory, the same storage options with up to 8TB NVMe PCIe M.2 main storage, and up to 2TB of SATA SSD storage in the secondary slot. It also comes with dual Ethernet, but this time it is limited to a single 2.5Gb and one 1Gb, coming from two Realtek chips, as well as the Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
The Ruby 2 starts at $589, making it just a tad bit cheaper than the Intel-based Topaz 2, and it would be interesting to see how these two compare to each other.
