AMD says Ryzen Threadripper 2000 is sampling

Q3 launch seems likely

During its announcement of the Ryzen Pro 2000 series CPU lineup, AMD provided a few more details on its upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series CPUs, saying that these are now sampling.

While the company did not provide any further details, earlier leaks suggested that we will see three SKUs in the Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series lineup, including the Threadripper 2900X, Threadripper 2920X and the Threadripper 2950X.

All three should have the same core count as the previous Ryzen Threadripper CPUs but could get higher clocks and better power efficiency, all thanks to the 12nm manufacturing process, the same one used for the previously released Ryzen 2000 series CPUs.

The Ryzen 2000 desktop CPU series also brought several other improvements including memory optimizations and some new features which could also be implemented on the Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series lineup so it will be interesting to see the actual performance and power efficiency gains.

AMD has already announced its Computex 2018 press conference and since Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series is now sampling to partners, we're likely to hear a lot more about them at the event.
