AMD's unlocked APUs detailed
A8-3870K and A6-3670K coming on December 26
The guys from Donanimhaber managed to score some additional details regarding the launch date and performance of AMD's upcoming A8-3870K and A6-3670K Black Edition APUs.
As far as the specs go, the A8-3870K CPU part works at 3.0GHz and feature Radeon HD 6550D graphics ticking at 600MHz with 400 stream processors. The A6-3670K CPU part is clocked at lower 2.7GHz and features Radeon HD 6530D graphics with 320 stream processors and a working clock of 433MHz. Of course, both of the quad-core APUs feature support for dual-channel DDR3-1866 memory, have a total of 4MB of cache and the same 100W TDP.
Donanimhaber also posted a slide that puts both of these against the Intel Core i3-2120 dual-core CPU. It might be a bit strange to put dual-core against quads but bear in mind that these are similarly priced. In CPU tests the Core i3-2120 pretty much holds its ground against A6-3670K while A8-3870K is a bit faster. Unsurprisingly, in GPU tests the APUs are pretty much bashing Intel's HD Graphics in the Core i3-2120. Of course, these are AMD slides so we'll rather wait for some official benchmarks before giving out our final judgement.
As noted, both APUs are scheduled to be launched on December 26th with a price set at US $135 for the A8-3870K and US $115 for the A6-3670K.
