In the first quarter of the new decade, the Core i7 920 will be replaced by the Core i7 930 and as expected, the model with the higher number will be clocked slightly faster.
Back in October, we already mentioned this CPU in detail here and we thought it useful to repeat the basics again. The Core i7 930 is a Nehalem-based 45nm quad-core that runs at 2.88GHz and is a non-Extreme Edition CPU designed to run on socket LGA 1366. Its QPI speed is 4.8GT/sec and it comes with 8MB of cache.
Additionally, it's Turbo engine can automatically overclock it to a rather modest 3.06GHz and the CPU supports DDR3 800 or 1066, at least officially.
The launch time is middle of Q1 2010 and we assume that it should be selling for $284 in quantities of 1,000, as this is the current price of its Core i7 920 2.66GHz predecessor.
