Intel tried to hide the TDP of its new, upcoming and more integrated Atoms and now the number is finally out. The TDP of dual core Atom 510 is 13W. This sounds like a lot, as the old dual core Atom 330 had TDP of 8W but bear in mind that the new Atom 510 has graphics and northbridge integrated on the same socket and that 5W overhead is more than four time less power compared to Intel 945GC chipset TDP.
According
to Intel's page
Intel 82945GSE Graphics and Memory Controller,
a Northbridge also known as 945SE has TDP of 6 W and ICH7 the Southbridge
needs additional 3.3W.
If we assume that Pine-view platform NM10 Southbridge needs
roughly the same, 3 to 4W for its operation, the whole TDP of Atom 510 dual-core CPU and chipset
would go end up at 16.3W or similar the same as with current generation Atom CPU platform.
With this in mind, we have a lot to be excited about.
