Intel has just announced that it wants to make its branding less complicated, but when it comes to Lynnfield quad-core Nehalem-based 45nm CPU, things won´t really be as simple.

Intel has said that based on performance, some Lynnfield CPUs might end up with Core i7 while slower ones will have Core i5 brand. This means that the logic whereby every Core i7 is Bloomfield, Nehalem three-channel memory based, this fact will change.

Most likely, the 2.93GHz clocked Lynnfield will end up as Core i7, while the slower might end up with Core i5 brand, but at this point, Intel is not ready to disclose details. One thing is clear, Core i7 means you got the faster CPU than Core i5 and this one is naturally faster than Core i3.
