The guys over at TweakTown managed to score a few comparison
pictures of the Intel socket LGA 1156 and socket LGA 1366 processors “Bloomfield,” “Lynnfield” and “Havendale.”
The lightning fast Core i7 “Bloomfield”
LGA 1366 processors based on Nehalem architecture packs four 45nm cores as well
as three DDR3 channels, all in a die size of 263mm². On the other hand, the
upcoming “Lynnfield” LGA 1156 processors based on the same architecture also pack
four 45nm cores but with two DDR3 channels and an on-package PCI-E controller
known as DMI. The “pinout” on Lynnfield is the same as on Bloomfield, so Intel
was able to afford a slightly smaller package with a two-channel integrated
memory controller and DMI chipset controller.
The “Havendale” 45nm dual-core
architecture, on the other hand, features embedded graphics alongside the CPU
die itself. This would have been a 45nm CPU with 45nm IGP, but it
was soon cancelled in favor for a 32nm CPU with 45nm IGP solution known as
Clarkdale and based on upcoming 32nm Westmere architecture.
