Today, the Swiss team over at Arctic Cooling has just
released the world’s first socket LGA 1156 low-noise cooling solutions for
Intel’s upcoming Core i5 “Lynnfield” processors, expected to be released from
the chip giant next quarter.
The new CPU cooler series consists of the Alpine 11 Pro, Alpine
11, and Alpine 11 GT which are designed to target “mainstream” and “power”
users, respectively. They are also all physically designed to support both
sockets LGA 775 and the new LGA 1156.
To start off, the Alpine 11 Pro is the cooler designed for
the power market as Arctic Cooling likes to call it, measuring in at 105.3x113.4x85mm
(DxWxH) and weighing around 428g. It is equipped with a 92mm fluid dynamic
bearing fan with PWM control that operates around ~0.4 sone, capable of pushing up to 36.7CFM
with 500-2000RPM adjustments.
Alpine 11 Pro
The Alpine 11 fits in the mainstream category and measures
in at 100x96x87 (DxWxH) with slightly less physical weight than the Pro at 370g.
It is also equipped with a 92mm fluid dynamic bearing fan with PWM control and
operates around ~0.4 sone, capable of pushing up to 36CFM with 900-2000RPM
adjustments. The only performance difference we can see is that the Alpine 11
Pro can dissipate 95 watts of heat while the Alpine 11 can do 90.
Alpine 11
Finally, there is the Alpine 11 GT which we would think fits
between the two previously mentioned coolers based on its name, but it is actually
the lower end mainstream solution. It measures in a little smaller at 89x89x75mm
and weighs a mere 286g. It is equipped with an 80mm fluid dynamic bearing fan
with PWM control and operates around ~0.3 sone, capable of pushing up to 28.6CFM
with 500-2000RPM adjustments. Overall, this solution can dissipate around 70
watts of heat.
Alpine 11 GT
Arctic Cooling’s new Alpine
11 Pro, Alpine
11 and Alpine
GT are set to release this month for a mere $14.35, $10.25 and $8.00, or
translated to €9.90, €7.10 and €5.60 respectively. The company states that “the
whole installation process can be done in less than a minute – a totally peace
of mind solution for Intel users.” Not to mention, they all include a
pre-applied portion of the famous MX-2 thermal compound. Overall, we can say
that these coolers seem to be very practical solutions for users of the
mainstream Lynnfield generation coming up very shortly.
