Phenom II 940 and 920 to EOL this year
Last orders in late Q2
AMD's 45nm Phenom II AM2+ based won't have a long and happy life. According to the latest information, AMD will accept last orders for Phenom II 940 at 3.0GHz and Phenom II 920 at 2.8GHz in late Q2 2009. The green Austin based company plans final shipments from its warehouses by mid Q4 2009.
Naturally AMD has replacement CPUs, and Phenom II 925 in AM3 iteration and same 2.8GHz clock will take over Phenom II 920's place, while the AM3 based Phenom II 945 at the same 3GHz will take over from Phenom II 940.
AMD plans to introduce Phenom II 925 in this quarter and it probably waits for better bios support for DDR3 memory, while Phenom II 945 at 3.0GHz should launch in early Q2 2009. The good news is that both Phenom II 945 and 925, as well as many other AM3 CPUs to come after them, will work with AM2+ boards and good old, dirt cheap DDR2 memory.
