The top selling Quad cores are naturally the cheapest ones you can get. You will be surprised when we tell you that the two year old Core 2 Quad Q6600 based on 65nm Kentfield core is still selling surprisingly well. It is selling for about €160 in European etail and there is still a lot of demand for it.
The one that
is overtaking Q6600 sales is Q8200 and this 2.33GHz CPU is selling for just
a bit under €150, but it works at 2.33GHz comported to 2.4GHz you get from
a Q6600.
Naturally Core
2 Quad Q8300 is also welling rather well as it normally sells for €175 or more in
European etail, and it offers 2.5GHz Quad core 45nm that usually works at much
higher speed, when overclocked.
As you can
see people like to spend below €200 for a CPU, no matter the number of the
cores or the speed. The cheapest Core i7 is still at €260, which is a bit too
much for most customers.
