Intel officially reveals H1 socket
Test kits available
Even though Socket H1 CPUs won’t arrive at least until Q3 2009, the test kits for this platform are already available. As a matter of fact, you can buy one today here.
The product is called Socket H1 LGA 1160 interposer board, and it comes with VR test tool kit. It can be yours for $250. We are sure that you have to qualify to buy something like this, but Intel has already publicly said that the new socket for mainstream Nehalems is 1160-pin.
The only major difference between first to come Lynnfield Quad-core mainstream Nehalem and Bloomfield is that Lynnfield has a dual memory controller, while Bloomfield has a three-way memory controller and should run a bit faster. Overall, cheaper Nehalems are coming; but until then the mainstream will be ruled by Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo CPUs in P45 and alike motherboards.
