Athlon X2 3250e

AMD has
announced its 22W Athlon X2 quite some time ago, and we’ve learned that Athlon X2 dual core 3250e with 22W TDP should be available any day now. The original plan was to start shipping these CPUs in November, but so far we couldn’t find them available in E.U. or U.S.A. This is the AM2 CPU based on Brisbane core, has 2x512KB cache, and is developed in 65nm.

We’ve tested a CPU similar to this one here, but so far this CPU was not available for sale. Some 45W Brisbane-based, dual-core Athlon X2s are available and the 2.30GHz one called Athlon X2 4450e is selling for €53+. The 22W Athlon X2 3250e should be available any day now, at least this is what AMD told its partners.

We will keep our eyes open, as this might be a perfect CPU to challenge Atom 330 dual core in home theater PCs, as it performs faster.  Atom 330 dual-core does have TDP of impressive 8W, but together with chipset we are talking about 25+ W, which should be very close to Brisbane 3250e with chipset.
