Eight threads per CPU do well in servers

We've learned that Xeon version of two-way Nehalem for server already exists. Basically, we are talking about a motherboard with two Nehalem chips.

Nehalem is a quad-core with eight threads and we heard that it will do exceptionally well in server space. You can expect some record breaking numbers from a single core Nehalem server, but if you put two together, they ought to be much faster, as we are talking about sixteen threads at the same time with two of these CPUs.

Intel won’t launch dual and quad-socket Nehalem this year, as that will wait for the next year, but there might be a chance that these systems might come faster than most expect them to. We will watch this space, as AMD is about to announce its 45nm Shanghai that can fit in both 2P and 4P configurations, even in existing motherboards and servers.
