Finally

It is finally
fixed, after a long wait we can confirm that Shanghai 45nm Quad-core, 45nm part comes out on the 13th of November.

AMD is ready to announce these chips with up to 2.7GHz frequency with its partners, while the faster parts are expected in early 2009. Shanghai should focus on virtualization, something that is very important for servers and it should be a decent match to Core 2 Quad-based Xeons, Harpertown at least at similar clock; but we still strongly believe that Nehalem-based Xeons at same clock will end up faster.

AMD will play the 'let's sell them cheaper' strategy and it will hope to win, but it's been more than a year since AMD had a competitive product in the server market. AMD Shanghai Opteron should consume less power than Nehalem and this will also be one of the sales points.

First reviews are expected on Thursday.
