Intel demos Core i7 965 EE running Lost Planet
IDF Taipei: Beats the old EE hands down
Intel had two demo systems on stage running Lost Planet as a comparison to show how much better the new Core i7 processors will be than the Core 2 generation. The two systems used a Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card and the demo was running at 1,280x960.
The Core i7 system was an average 10-20fps faster than the QX9770 powered system. However, certain parts of the game were up to 30-40fps faster using the upcoming CPU which is quite an impressive result. We still don't think this is enough of an advantage to convince people that already have a high-end Core 2 Quad system to make the switch.
We're sure it's appealing to some gamers and certain high-end users, but considering the cost to upgrade to the Core i7 platform, we have a feeling that a lot of people are going to wait until prices will hopefully come down sometime next year.
