Core i7 XE 965, 940 and 920

As we
suggested a few days ago Intel has finalized its naming nomenclature for the first Bloomfield processors.

The fastest and most expensive one, which costs $999, will be branded as the Core i7 Extreme Edition 965. The runner up is the Core i7 940 with a clock speed of 2.93GHz, while the last of the Bloomfield Nehalems to launch this year is the Core i7 920 clocked at 2.66GHz and priced at $284.

We still don’t think that Intel’s marketing department did a good job simplifying the naming, as for example currently there is a Core 2 Extreme QX9650 which looks awfully close to the Core i7 Extreme 965.

We believe it is still too complicated for the average Joe, but then again the first generation of Core i7 is targeted to a market of people who know what they are buying, so they should be fine. This still doesn’t mean that we or the market really likes the Core i7 brand, but it “sounds good phonetically.”
