We wrote before that Intel plans to introduce a new Q6850 chip that will work at 3GHZ, but unlike QX6850 it won't be unlocked.
As both work at the same basic clock, Intel has decided to retire the expensive one, QX6850, in July and it will retire QX6800 clocked at 2.93GHz.
Both of these CPUs are 65nm-based and Intel simply wants to shift a lot of focus on 45nm Quad- cores and later this year to Bloomfield, Nehalem based CPUs.
It looks that 3.2GHz Quad-core will be the fastest Core 2 Quad marchitecture to meet Nehalem at that speed, while 3.0GHz will be the more affordable Core 2 Quad option.
