Intel will cut the prices of three mobile Penryn CPUs and it plans to launch two new ones. The new cores will be part of the Centrino 2 launch and the price cut is expected in June, probably at Computex.
The top-of-the-line CPU to be launched is Core 2 Duo T9600 that will work at 2.8GHz. It has 6MB of memory and clocks at 1066MHz. It will cost $517 at launch.
The second in line is Core 2 Duo 9500 with 2.53GHz and 6MB cache and it will cost $340 at launch. It has Core 2 Duo T9400 with the same 2.53GHz clock, FSB 1066MHz support, but it will cost $309. Intel again plays this sick naming game and you can bet you wouldn’t know what are you buying. Intel wants you to want Centrino 2 and not the CPU speed.
The last two include the P8600 with a 2.4GHz clock, 3MB cache and FSB1066. It will cost $236 at launch, while the P8400 with 2.26 GHz clock, 3MB cache and 1066MHz FSB will cost $197.
Centrino 2 launches on the first day of Computex, June 3rd 2008.
