Intel to show off Silverthorne
Low power for handhelds
Intel is to show off its latest low-powered Silverthorne processor this week at the International Solid State Circuits conference.
According to News.com, the Chipmaker is going to present 14 papers highlighting some of its recent work. Silverthorne is the smallest x86 instruction set processor Intel has built in the last 15 to 17 years and will arrive in the second quarter.
Designed for mobile Internet devices it is stage one of a plan which will see a chip in the next generation of mobile devices and smart phones. The chip uses between half a watt and two Watts, but can run any software that is written for PCs.
