US chip manufacturer Cypress has said that it will continue to invest in a 200-mm fab in Minnesota while "exploring options" for an older 150-mm fab in Texas. The Electronic Times claimed that Cypress was considering selling all its US Fabs and outsourcing its advanced SRAM chip production to United Microelectronics of Taiwan.
However Cypress has issued a clarification saying that it
had no plans to sell its Minnesota fab which it says was state of the art. However it was reviewing its use of the Texas
plant.
A spokesman said that the Minnesota fab was an important
strategic asset and a large part of our future." We have no plans to sell
it." You can read more here.
